The Recorder-County Clerk’s office has 29 allocated positions comprised of permanent and temporary staff, and has a 2002-2003 budget of $2,034,435.

Responsibilities of clerk of the San Joaquin County includes Preparing Board of Supervisors/Clerk of the Board Budget, Preparing Board of Supervisor Agendas and Minutes, Rostering of Boards and Commissions, guarding San Joaquin County Ordinance Code, Recording all Claims against the County, Coordinating Board of Supervisors Meetings, Industrial Development Authority, Planning, Assessment Appeals, City Selection Committee Meetings. County Clerk also plays an important role as a Liaison Between Departments and the Public.

Since January 1995 the office of the County Clerk has been consolidated with that of the County Recorder. The Clerk’s/Recorder's Office places "of record" all documents required by law or allowed by law to be recorded in the Official Records. Over 150,000 such documents are recorded annually and are presented for recordation by title companies, banks, attorneys, corporations, political subdivisions and by the general public. These documents cover a wide range of over 168 different potential legal efficacies.
