California state university (CSU):
With 23 campuses, 409,000 students, and 44,000 faculty and staff, CSU is the largest, the most diverse, and one of the most affordable university systems in the country. Students can choose from 1,800 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in some 240-subject areas.The oldest campus--San Jose State University--was founded in 1857 and became the first institution of public higher education in California. The newest campus-- California State University, Channel Islands--opened in fall 2002, with freshmen arriving in fall 2003.The CSU has awarded more than 2 million bachelor's, master's and joint doctoral degrees since 1961.
